The Rising Five class
is a small, intimate group of younger five-year-old children. They
are able to enrich and expand upon nursery school activities and
there is time for sharing with our Kindergarten class as well.
We achieve our goals
through a hands-on, unpressured focus on science, nature and literature
in addition to play and "Emergent Curriculum".
An example of Emergent
Curriculum might be a study of earthworm's habitats, needs, food
chains and anatomy. The children might also render earthworms artistically,
read about them and enjoy stories, poems and songs on the subject.
Our nature program includes
daily exposure to school yard habitats, including the woods, along
with developmentally appropriate field trips.
